The Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools is a qualification from NCFE. The purpose of this qualification is to confirm your competence in a Level 3 Teaching Assistant role or similar, that supports learning in a school environment. This qualification enables you to develop and demonstrate the skills and knowledge to work in an unsupervised role at times or in a team leading positon within the school workforce, directly supporting the teaching and learning of pupils in primary, secondary or special schools. You could also use this qualification to support your progression to further learning within the teaching and learning and education sector.

It is ideal if you’re already working or volunteering in a learning support role in a school environment and want to develop your knowledge and skills or confirm occupational competency. There is a requirement for assessment in a real work environment, so you must have a placement (either as a volunteer or as a member of staff) in a school environment.

This is a blended learning programme with 180 Guided Learning Hours, which should normally take around six months to complete. The online element is delivered through our Teaching Zone.

You are required to create a portfolio of evidence which demonstrates achievement of 100% of the learning outcomes and assessment criteria associated with each unit. The main pieces of evidence for the portfolio could include:

assessor observation – completed observational checklists and related action plans
witness testimony
candidate’s proof of work
worksheets assignments/projects/reports
record of professional discussion
record of oral and written questioning
candidate and peer reports

This qualification is for those members of the school workforce who directly support the teaching and learning of pupils.

You must have a placement (either as a volunteer or as a member of staff) in a school environment. It is not a strict requirement, but it is recommended that the placement should be for the duration of the qualification, as these qualifications are for the members of the school workforce who directly support or are involved in the teaching and learning of pupils.

The primary purpose of this qualification is to confirm your competence in a supporting teaching and learning role in a school environment. This qualification builds on the skills and knowledge developed in the Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools and you’ll be expected to demonstrate autonomy and higher levels of responsibility, including:

providing effective support for teachers and pupils
assisting with and delivering learning programmes
developing professional relationships with other members of the school workforce
promoting equality, diversity and inclusion in work with children and young people
directly supporting children and young people’s development
safeguarding the wellbeing of children and young people
communicating with children, young people and adults.
You’ll also develop a wide range of personal, transferable skills, such as teamwork, communication skills, self-assessment, planning and development, which will benefit you as you progress through your career.

This is a competence based qualification so there is a requirement for assessment in a real work environment. You must therefore have a placement (or employment) in a school environment. There aren’t any specific recommended prior learning requirements for this qualification. However, you might find it useful if you have already completed qualifications in a relevant area at Level 2.

You can also request a tutorial. In addition to this, your tutor team will be able to track your progress using our secure online system which enables the implementation of appropriate strategies to provide assistance in any area of need. This enables us to identify and meet any additional training needs.

Quarterly seminars

A team in the UK will conduct quarterly seminars, workshops and knowledge based lectures at key selected locations.
